Mankind is marching into a new century characterized by an information society. Conventional education methods are faced with severe challenges. By using the latest technological achievements and new concepts in distance education to establish a virtual university, which meets needs of engineers and managers to obtain all different knowledge, is the only way to construct a lifelong education system and achieve an environment for learning society.

The modern distance education is a new kind of models of education that takes the computer network and satellite communication technologies as its basis and multimedia technology as its means. It merges information technology into education and has been paid more attention in the field of education all over world. It will definitely produce a great impact and changes on education. Meanwhile, it will promote the development of information industry and drives the development of economics.

  Dear classmates,

Every one of us, rich or poor, should at least have one or two good friends. My friends will listen to me when I want to speak, will wipe my eyes when I cry, will take care of me when I am sick, and my friends will go together with me side by side through this journey of life.

As students, we could share more time with our friends. The friendship in our young hearts is pure, fresh and simple. I often feel very lucky to have a lot of good friends. Especially when I had Justin as one of my best friends. Justin was my English teacher from the USA. I met him in 1996 when I was a student who could only speak very little English. Justin was a vivid young man with a bright smile on his face, and he always had his special way to make the class active and attractive. He taught us English by telling stories, playing games, singing songs, and even dancing. I could still remember very clearly that one afternoon when we fin-ished our class, we went to some other classes to sing songs for them, just like what people do in the states on Christmas Eve. It was so interesting and unforgettable. Justin was an excellent teacher, because he taught us not only how to study English well, but also the way to find out the beauty of the world and the way to be angels to others' lives. I know there was

friendship and pure love in our hearts. Facing this valuable emotion neither nationality nor age was important, the real importance lay in faith, under-standing, and care. Justin is the best friend I have ever had, and I know I will cherish those days of staying together with him as the best part of my memory.

Globalization is one of the most popular words in this era。 People live in a global village, enterprises come up with global strategies statesmen promote global cooperation, even anti—terrorism has become a global task。

Today I want to share my opinion of which is that globalization with you ,

When I was a little girl I looked forward to globalization because it’s said that globalization can make the world smaller and make it possible for me to talk, travel, exchange ideas and experiences。 I can eat any delicious food from any corner of the world, I can watch movie and TV programs from any producer, I can also extend our horizon and our mind quickly and conveniently。 Globalization sounds like a super hero that can bring everything to me。

When I growing up ,I have noticed that globalization is both a a challenge and an opportunity。 In one hand , we want to attract more and more people become interested and excited about china ,in the other hand, there is much change happens in our living environment and we still want to keep our beautiful scenery while enjoying cooperation with foreign companies and foreign countries。

What should we do when we face to the phenomenon ?

First of all I think we should have our national characteristics。 We should show that even globalization has its own home and globalization identity。 Second, we should make good use of globalization resources from any countries as possible as we can。 From that we can benefit from it in the long run。 The last one, as I just mentioned, people living in a global village, so we are the part of the globalization and sharing the responsibility to make our world more wonderful。

In conclusion, I think globalization made our daily life more and more excellent, we should catch the opportunity to develop our hometown, our society, our country in every side。

  I love polar bears.

Hello, everyone! I am Li Shiyi. I am from Hanyuan

Traffic and Hope primary school. My topic is “I love polar bears!”

First, I will sing a song for you .And then I fall

asleep in polar bear’s warm hug. Today, he is here. Let’s welcome Ben, the polar bear.

A: Hi, Ben, you look much thinner now?Have you been to the gym?

B: A gym? Are you kidding me? I’m thin because I'm starving.

A: Starving? But I thought you enjoyed your life. So Coca-Cola must pay you lots of money for this advertising.

B: Coca-Cola?Nobody pays me anything. But if they do, please pay my ice back.

My friends, have you heard Ben’s request? Yes, the glacier is melting because of the globe warming. So when you’re drinking the cold Coca-Cola or enjoying the air conditioners, have you ever thought you’re pushing the polar bear to the abyss?

Polar bear is our friend. He is so beautiful and cute. He never hurt us. So we shouldn’t hurt them too. On the contrary, we should protect them. If we don't do it, maybe our son or daughter won’t see them again in the future.

Let’s try our best to protect the polar bear, the cute polar bear!

Everyone has their idol. So do I. My idol is neither a big star, nor a person with brilliant achievements. My idol is an ordinary person close to me. He’s my father, my beloved father.

My father is 36 years old. He’s tall and keeps his shape well. He has a long face. On the long face, there is a pair of eyes with brimming vigor. Just because of this pair of eyes, he can tell the right from wrong. Between the two eyes, there is a straight nose. Under the nose, there is a mouth with slightly raised corners. With these well-shaped corners of mouth, he always looks like smiling even when he is angry. He is so kind.

My father is an engineer. He also has a business of his own. In my mind, there is always a picture that he’s very busy. I know what he is doing is for us, for the happiness of our family. Influenced by him, I may take up the work in the similar field and will try my best to achieve some successes when I grow up.

My father has some hobbies. For example, he likes playing basketball. He plays it very well. I hope that I can do it like him. But I am a little fat. I will do more exercises to lose some weight.

My father is just an ordinary person, but he shows a lot of passion for life from the bottom of his heart. He sticks to his ideas and never gives up what he is doing. He does not want to be looked down upon by others. My father doesn’t have a good looking like a movie star. But I respect him for his insistence and commitment. He’s my idol forever.

  I believe in our future

Honorable Judges, fellow students: Good afternoon! Recently, ther is a heated debate in our society. The college students are the beneficiaries of a rare privilege, who receive exceptional education at extraordinary places. But will we be able to face the challenge and support ourselves against all odds? Will we be able to better the lives of others? Will we be able to accept the responsibility of building the future of our country?

The cynics say the college students are the pampered lost generation, which would cringe at the slightest discomfort. But the cynics are wrong. The college students I see are eagerly learning about how to live independently. We help each other clean the dormitory, go shopping and bargain together, and take part time jobs to supplement our pocket money.

The cynics say we care for nothing other than grades; and we neglect the need for character cultivation. But again, the cynics are wrong. We care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth. Last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer.

As college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives. We all face a fundamental choice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country. I believe in all my fellow classmates. Though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish. I believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities. We are preparing to assume new responsibilities and tasks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a better place. I believe in our future.

The story with English and me

Hello everyone,it is glad to meet you,my name is Nong Yanxing, you can also call me Virita, It’s my English name. I am a Howell School’s girl and I am an outgoing girl too, so I like playing jokes with others.

I am fourteen years old and I have learnt English for six years now I’ve loved English since the first time, I’ve heard it from a tape. The voice from the tape was very wonderful and the language was so nice time I thought, how wonderful the language is! And if I can speak English as well as the speaker in the tape, that will be amazing! So I asked my mum:“Can I learn English? I really love it!” “Of course you can,but are you sure about it? Can you insist on it?” She was a bit excited. “Of course I can, mum. I love it very much,I want to learn it. ”I said confidently,“Oh,my good kid,you are very good,I am so excited about you are interested in English. ”She gave me a sweet hug. We laughed together. Then,I’ve started my English learning way.

At the beginning,I loved English because it sounds comfortable ,but I can’t believe that how difficult to learn English grammar. Then I felt tired, and I really want to give it up. Buton that main time,my English teacher found me was a bit strange,“What wrong with you,Virita? You look a bit strange.” “Nothing, I just think English grammar is so difficult. It is boring,I don’t want to learn it anymore!” “Why?You can’t give it up,Virita. I can help you just trust me.”“Really?” “Of course!” Then she helped me with my English grammar after class everyday. She told me how to find a good way for my own to learn English grammar. How to find a good way to remember the English new words. She told me try to love English! Interests is the best teacher! So my English marks improve very fast. And in the finally exam,I got the best marks at school. I was so happy my English teacher warned me again “Don’t be proud of it. Hasty climbers have the sudden falls. You should come on!”

I also like watching Holly Wood movies, for example, The Green Man in the Avengers is very strong and V in V of vendetta is very cool. Most of actors and actresses speak English in the film, and I really want to understand the whole meaning about a film without any caption one day. Itis difficult for me to make it come true. I should work harder.

English is a very beautiful language itis my friend,a real friend. Although I can’t feel it with my hands, but I can feel it with my heart. English brought me a lot and I have a big dream about English. To make it come true ,I should work harder and learn more Western culture. We’ll love each other more and more.

This is the story with English and me.

  Thanks for listening.

once upon a time there were a fisherman and his wife who lived together in a filthy shack near the sea. every day the fisherman went out fishing, and he fished, and he fished. once he was sitting there fishing and looking into the clear water, and he sat, and he sat. then his hook went to the bottom, deep down, and when he pulled it out, he had caught a large flounder.

then the flounder said to him, "listen, fisherman, i beg you to let me live. i am not an ordinary flounder, but an enchanted prince. how will it help you to kill me? i would not taste good to you. put me back into the water, and let me swim."

"well," said the man, "there's no need to say more. i can certainly let a fish swim away who knows how to talk."with that he put it back into the clear water, and the flounder disappeared to the bottom, leaving a long trail of blood behind him. then the fisherman got up and went home to his wife in the filthy shack.

"husband," said the woman, "didn't you catch anything today?" "no," said the man. "i caught a flounder, but he told me that he was an enchanted prince, so i let him swim away.”"didn't you ask for anything first?" said the woman. "no," said the man. "what should i have asked for?"

"oh," said the woman. "it is terrible living in this shack. it stinks and is filthy. you should have asked for a little cottage for us. go back and call him. tell him that we want to have a little cottage. he will surely give it to us.""oh," said the man. "why should i go back there?" "look," said the woman, "you did catch him, and then you let him swim away. he will surely do this for us. go right now."

the man did not want to go, but neither did he want to oppose his wife, so he went back to the sea.when he arrived there it was no longer clear, but yellow and green. he stood there and said: “mandje! mandje! timpe te! flounder, flounder, in the sea! my wife, my wife ilsebill, wants not, wants not, what i will?”the flounder swam up and said, "what does she want then?"

"oh," said the man, "i did catch you, and now my wife says that i really should have asked for something. she doesn't want to live in a filthy shack any longer. she would like to have a cottage.""go home," said the flounder. "she already has it."

the man went home, and his wife was standing in the door of a cottage, and she said to him, "come in. see, now isn't this much better?”there was a little front yard, and a beautiful little parlor, and a bedroom where their bed was standing, and a kitchen, and a dining room. everything was beautifully furnished and supplied with tin and brautensils, just as it should be. and outside there was a little yard with chickens and ducks and a garden with vegetables and fruit.

"look," said the woman. "isn't this nice?""yes," said the man. "this is quite enough. we can live here very well.""we will think about that," said the woman.then they ate something and went to bed.

everything went well for a week or two, and then the woman said, "listen, husband. this cottage is too small. the yard and the garden are too little. the flounder could have given us a larger house. i would like to live in a large stone palace. go back to the flounder and tell him to give us a palace.""oh, wife," said the man, "the cottage is good enough. why would we want to live in a palace?"

to me march 28th was a lucky day. it was on that particular evening that i found myself at central stage, in the spotlight. winning the 21st century·ericsson cup seventh national english speaking competition is a memory that i shall treasure and one that will surely stay. more important than winning the cup is the friendship that has been established and developed among the contestants, and the chance to communicate offstage in addition to competing onstage. also the competition helps boost public speaking in china, a skill hitherto undervalued. for me, though, the competition is a more personal experience. habitually shy, i had been reluctant to take part in any such activities. encouraged by my friends, however, i made a last-minute decision to give it a try. in the course of preparation i somehow rediscovered myself, a truer me.

i found that, after all, i like communicating with other people; that exchanging views can be so much fun—and so much rewarding, both emotionally and intellectually; that public speaking is most effective when you are least guarded; and that it is essential to success in every walk of life. at a more practical level, i realized knowing what you are going to say and how you are going to say it are equally important. to take the original ideas out of your head and transplant them, so to speak, to that of others, you need to have an organized mind. this ability improves with training. yet there should not be any loss or addition or distortion in the process. those ideas that finally find their way into another head need to be recognizably yours. language is a means to transmit information, not a means to obstruct communication. it should be lucid to be penetrating.

in china, certain public speaking skills have been unduly emphasized. will it really help, we are compelled to ask, to bang at the podium or yell at the top of your lungs, if you have come with a poorly organized speech, a muddled mind, and unwillingness to truly share your views?

above all, the single most important thing i learnt was that as a public speaker, you need to pay attention, first and foremost, to the content of your speech. and second, the structure of your speech: how one idea relates and progresses to another. only after these come delivery and non-verbal communication: speed control, platform manner, and so on. pronunciation is important, yet of greater importance is this: is your language competent enough to express your ideas exactly the way you intend them to be understood? i was informed afterwards that i was chosen to be the winner for my appropriately worded speech, excellent presence and quick-witted response. in so remarking, the judges clearly showed their preference: they come to listen for meaningful ideas, not for loose judgments, nor easy laughters.

some contestants failed to address their questions head on. some were able to, but did not know where to stop—the dragging on betrayed their lack of confidence. the root cause was that they did not listen attentively to the questions. or they were thinking of what they had prepared. as i said in my speech, it is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking ... to take them [issues like obalization] on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way. we need to respond honestly.

a competition like this draws talented students from all over the country. and of course, i learnt more things than just about public speaking. since in the final analysis, public speaking is all about effective communication. and this goes true for all communications, whatever their setting. and the following is the final version of my speech: globalization: opportunities and challenges for chinas younger generation thirty years ago, american president richard nixon made an epoch-making visit to china, a country still isolated at that time. premier zhou enlai said to him, your handshake came over the vastest ocean in the world—twenty-five years of no communication. thirty years since, china and america have exchanged many handshakes. the fundamental implication of this example is that the need to communicate across differences in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but many other nations as well.

as we can see today, environmentalists from different countries are making joint efforts to address the issue of global warming, economists are seeking solutions to financial crises that rage in a particular region but nonetheless cripple the world economy, and politicians and diplomats are getting together to discuss the issue of combating terrorism. peace and prosperity has become a common goal that we are striving for all over the world. underlying this mighty trend of global communication is the echo of e. m. forsters words only connect!

with the it revolution, traditional boundaries of human society fall away. our culture, politics, society and commerce are being sloshed into one large melting pot of humanity. in this interlinked world, there are no outsiders, for a disturbance in one place is likely to impact other parts of the globe. we have begun to realize that a world divided cannot endure. china is now actively integrating into the world. our recent entry to the wto is a good example. for decades, we have taken pride in being self-reliant, but now we realize the importance of participating in and contributing to a broader economic order. from a precarious role in the world arena to our present wto membership, we have come a long way. but what does the way ahead look like? in some parts of the world people are demonstrating against globalization. are they justified, then, in criticizing the globalizing world? insteadof narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization enables the developed nations to swallow the developing nations wealth in debts and interest. globalization, they argue, should be about a common interest in every other nations economic health. we are reminded by karl marx that capital goes beyond national borders and eludes control from any other entity. this has become a reality. multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest market, and the most favourable policy. they are often powerful lobbyists in government decision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global market and a devastating presence to local businesses. for china, still more challenges exist. how are we going to ensure a smooth transition from the planned economy to a market-based one? how to construct a legal system that is sound enough and broad enough to respond to the needs of a dynamic society? how to maintain our cultural identity in an increasingly homogeneous world? and how to define greatness in our rise as a peace-loving nation? globalization entails questions that concern us all. like many young people my age in china, i want to see my country get prosperous and enjoy respect in the international community. but it seems to me that mere patriotism is not just enough. it is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our mind to bigger issues. there might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way. this is also one of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech.

first, i would like to know, what does your destiny offer you? happiness, wisdom, a strong body or something else. if i had asked this question to president nixon, he would probably had said,”our destiny offers not the cup of despair, but the chalice of opportunity.” needless to say, one of the biggest opportunities given to china is the XX olympic games. till now, we have used two sevenths of the preparation time. how much changes have you seen? new roads, new subway lines, public-exercising equipments with beautiful colors, large blocks of grass fields, and also lots of modern gyms which are under construction. other than those, there are even more good effects brought to us by the olympic games that cannot be seen directly. for example, more and more people will get to know china. i’m sure the mysterious chinese culture will attract them strongly. and the games will also do good to the economy and environment, for it is gaining the attention of foreign investors and the awareness of environmental protection is being strengthened. what is more, olympic games give a unique opportunity to inspire and educate a new generation of chinese youth with the olympic values and the olympic spirit. now that we have seen so many advances, could you even imagine us losing the holding rights? i’ve already said a lot about the olympics and china. but i think everyone should use some time to think of this question, ”does the olympic games have any special meaning to you?” for us, i mean the chinese youth, XX olympic games is a tremendous gift. because what we are waiting for is to do something significant as repaying the love given to us .the society is just like a ship, and in our dreams the captain is waving his hand and saying ”hey! come here and take the helm! ”how charming his voice is, but we have never heard of it in our true life. this morning, however, when we wake up, we will see the olympi ic games waving its hand. after chewing, most of us will have at least one plan about what to do for the olympic games. and mine is to be a “comforter” ----that is someone who will give comfort to others. at the end of my speech, i hope all the preparation will go well, and everyone will show their ability to the world. let us seize opportunities and give a big smile to challenges.

“Globalization is a conspiracy.” my South African friend, Nuhu, once told me. I was in a shock while he explained, “It’s a game that we’re forced to play by the rules set by the superior westerners.” And by learning about the drive of the original globalization, the primitive accumulation of capital, I’m convinced that enough is enough. The unequal, violent exchange should have been enough since a long time ago.

However, what we do see today is that China has risen up by selling our products around the globe and learning advanced technology from others. And Africa is also believed to be the next China, another economic hub in the near future. So, although this might be an unfair game to play like what Nuhu claims, what he fails to see is that globalization is the very ladder for nations, especially those at the bottom of the global hierarchy to climb up. This win-win globalization is not enough. We can have more of it.

But what is the backlash? We have been fearing that the tide of globalization, the outpouring of western values will undermine our own. So when the global stage is not hearing a lot from the Chinese culture and not to mention the African culture, I guess Nuhu is onto something. The globalization that amplifies some cultures while extinguishing the others should have been enough since the very beginning.

And yet that’s not the whole picture. We see that our traditional works like Sun Tzu’s Art of War being worshiped by businessmen around the globe makes us start to relook at it and appreciate it again. And the Nobel Prize awarding for Moyan’s literature leads us to reflect on the development of our villages. So in the past, only we, Chinese people protect and pass on Chinese culture; but now, the international scholars, professors or even just ordinary people all over the world who get interested in our culture are preserving it. The uniqueness not well-protected by us transforms into the diversity universally-respected by global citizens. It is because of globalization that China and its culture are truly on a global stage.

So globalization is actually an on-going process that keeps surprising us while startling those worries and fears. It’s a dynamic system that we should look for ways to utilize and enhance.

But with the Brexit and the success of Trumpism, it seems major countries are all shifting away from globalization. But just because they are slowing down, making turns and adjusting themselves instead of peddling up, it doesn’t mean they are going for anti-globalization.

We are at an unprecedented point where the world becomes ever so connected that we need to figure out the boundaries and balance between censorship and openness; sameness and differences; patriotism and global citizenship. It’s the best time that every nation should seek for a better role to play in the globalization where we should continue to make improvements on.

It’s very understandable for nations to panic and make changes but we should never quit for it’s clear to us all that globalization is the only way that we seek for co-prosperity.

Globalization is not a conspiracy planned already, but a beautifully unfinished song to be written by us all.

  Enough is SO NOT enough.

  remember them forever。

that morning, i rode my bike to school happily as usual。 on my way to the

classroom, i saw some of my classmates。 but when they saw me, they rushed away。 that made me confused。 because they would talk to me or play jokes on me before。 but it was strange today。

when i came into the classroom, i found the atmosphere was quite strange。

everybody looked at me and laughed loudly。 suddenly they all said in good order,“happy birthday to you!” then they began to sing “happy birthday to you~~~~~~” that made me moved。 i never told anyone about my birthday, how did they know? i believed they must have done a lot of things。 at that moment, i found nothing to say but thanks instead!

after school, a thing ing as a surprise happened on me on my way back home。 when i was riding suddenly a crowed of people rushed out to stopped my bike。i recogized them at once。 they were my senior classmates。 they all lained to me,“why don't you tell us about your birthday? don't you fear that we will let you stand treat? this time you owe us。” then each of them gave a gift and a card with best wishes to me。 i was deeply moved again。 i suggested having a dinner together。 but they all refused because of the time。 then they left me saying we would ask you to pay us another day!

when i got back home, i thought of everything happened today。 suddenly i felt so happy because i had such great friends around me。 i thanked them from the bottom of my heart。 i would value the precious friendship forever!

i have so many feelings through that special day。 the only rose without thorns in the world is friendship。 a true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart。 truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget。 one friend in a lifetime is much, two are many, three are hardly possible。 stick to make friends, forlife without friends is like life on a desert island。 to find one real friend in a lifetime is good fortune, to keep him is a blessing。

  thank you for your attention!
