　　This novel was written by Robert Louis Stevenson. He was born on November thirteenth, 1850 and died on December third 1894.He was a famous Scottish novelist, poet, essayist and travel writer and he has great influence on English literature.

　　This novel mainly describe a famous and intelligent physician who turns into a evil man after taking a drug , intended to separate evil from good in a personality . Dr. Jekyll is the main character of this novel .he is known as an acknowledgeable and respectable man in London. Lots of people thought that Dr. Jekyll is nearly a perfect man for what he dose good deeds and cures the pain of his patient. He owned the good fame for what good deeds he has done. But in his inner heart he always feels tired of what role he has acted as .He wants to change himself ,so he does something evil to set free himself .he dreams to do evil things to make himself feel comfortable.

　　To be another man is the crazy dream for Jekyll .so he mixes some drugs and powder together to make new drugs. After taking this new medicine he becomes an ugly, small and deformed man named Mr. Hyde.Being an evil man, he can does some evil things, where as Hyde was still young and energetic .so he begins his life of evil. During this time, Hyde was looked on as a blackmailer even a murder .he could not get rid of the police who are searing for him

　　everywhere. So he was forced to be Jekyll again.

　　For he takes much medicine, he always changes himself between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde .Finally ,his strong desire to do evil things controls himself mostly. he can change himself to be Hyde naturally and unconsciously, which makes him suffered too much .some times he nearly becomes evil Hyde when he talked with friend Utterson and his mails there was a time when two-ness of men .he wished deeply to separate these two men of good and evil inside him.

　　Utterson is a good friend of Mr. Jekyll, he is curious about what he heard from Richard. So he spends lots of time in collect information about Jekyll and Hyde .this is a long time for him .After both Jekyll and Lanyon died, Utterson read the two letters written by Jekyll and Lanyon .Finally Utterson knows well about the complex things of his two friends .he knows the evil things Jekyll have done and the true feelings of Jekyll. He knows the surprising thing that Lanyon have saw.

　　The secret and complicated things become bright for Utterson .however; he could do nothing but keep up the good fame for his good friend.

　　After reading this novel, I feel very shock about what Jekyll have done and though. He has good fame and good social position

　　so he should cherish what he have owned but do some evil things .In our lives ,we should remember who we are and what we can do or not. In this way, we can always be ourselves and live a happy life. We can keep our good fame forever.

　　There is a devil lives in our hearts. Sometimes our happiness stems from others misfortune. This makes us feel shamed. Every now and then I wonder whether there is a method that can remove the devil from our hearts. In this way, the evil part of me wont feel shamed, meanwhile, the good part of me wont get happiness from others misfortune. After reading this novella entitled "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", I think its better to shut down this bad idea.

　　This novella is written by the famous Scottish author, Robert Louis Stevenson. It is about a London lawyer named John Gabriel Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Hey Jekyll and the evil Edward Hyde.

　　Dr. Hey Jekyll was a scientist who was always considered as a serious, hard-working doctor. Behind this character, however, he was an active, fun-loving young man-about-town. He had spent most of his life trying to remove the devil from his heart which was not fitting for a man of his stature. After much thought, he finally decided to create a drug that could give each side of his character its own separate face and body. Then, he bravely drank the drug and successfully transformed himself into the smaller, younger, cruel, remorseless, evil Edward Hyde. Dr. Jekyll enjoyed his secret very much--but not for ever after. As time went by, Mr. Hyde grew in power. After taking the drug repetitively, Dr. Jekyll no longer needed to use the drug to relief his devil.Eventually, Mr. Hyde grew so strong that Dr. Jekyll had to rely on the drug to remain himself.He first injured a child in street, then beat Sir Danvers to death for no reason. Realizing he would soon become Hyde forever, Dr. Jekyll left behind a confession and commit suicide.

　　Generally speaking, every man has two sides to his character. Just like Dr. Jekyll was a serious, hard-working doctor which concealed a irresponsible man who pleasured around underneath. Dr. Jekyll had noticed it quiet well, but he should have known that a normal people could not be two people live uncomfortably together in the same body. It sounds more like "dual personalities". Feeling complacent about his creation, Dr. Jekyll didnt notice that he was trapped. Before the experiment, Dr. Jekyll was just a double-dealer. And after it, he became a person with dual personalities. Each personality wanted to control the body. Unfortunately, good didnt prevail over evil. Dr. Jekyll grew weak while Mr. Hyde grew powerful.

　　Actually, the two sides of a person have well defined power and responsibility, mutual coordination and restraint. They know the appropriate time and situation to behave themselves. You can be serious at work with a character likes Dr. Jekyll and have your private life as crazy as you want. This is nothing to be ashamed of, but Dr. Jekyll didnt realize it at that time. During the one-month internship, I have noticed that there are a great numbers of teachers wear a double face. They treat students strictly, meanwhile, they are quite friendly with their collogues and parents of students. This makes their life much easier. Everyone plays different roles in different situations. We neednt to shame about it. The double-dealers can always gain advantage from both sides and live well.

　　When Dr. Jekyll took the drug and devided into two person, this tragedy is waiting to happen. The two person are quite simply. Dr. Jekyll shared no effort to do good and Mr. Hyde committed all manner of evil. Through the death of Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, the author tried to expound his point: If you cant rein in your devil, you would be punished at last.

　　In the unknown corner of peoples deepest heart, good coexists with evil. In the story of deers and wolves, people simply thought that deers could live better without wolves. As a matter of fact, deers could not live without wolves. They maintained an appropriate balance in the forest. But for the chasing of wolves, deers couldnt be strong and healthy. Similarly, when separated, the good side of Dr. Jekyll became weaker and weaker. Instead, the evil side of him became stronger and stronger without the restraint of the good side. But the evil side, Mr. Hyde couldnt live without Dr. Jekyll, because they shared a body. So when Dr. Jekyll committed suicide, Mr. Hyde dead,too.

　　It is too late for Dr. Jekyll to realize that having two characters is nothing to be ashamed of. But I learned a lot from this novella. There is a "Jekyll" and a "Hyde" in everybody. I will face up to my desires and try to strengthen heart for good to defeat the devil. Nothing is difficult in the world for one who sets his mind to do it.

　　My Impression of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde"

　　Recently I read a book named Dr.JekyII and Mr. Hyde. It is a quite interesting book. This novel is written by the famous Scottish author, Robert Louis Stevenson. It is about a London lawyer named John Gabriel Utterson who investigates strange behavior in his old friend, Dr. Hey Jekyll and the evil Edward Hyde.

　　For most of the book, I believed that the story concerns two people. Dr Jekyll who born in a rich family , is a kindly old doctor, with two very old friends, Utterson and Lanyon. Mr. Hyde is a smaller, younger man, with a capacity of evil and repels everyone he meets. And yet, despite being apparent opposites in so many ways, there are clear links between the two men. Hyde gives the family of a child he has beaten a cheque signed by Jekyll. Hyde has a key to the back entrance to Jekyll’s house, and Hyde can come and go at will and give orders to Jekyll’s servants. And when Dr.JekyII’s friend, Utterson received a letter from Hyde saying that he is going away for ever, but realizing that it is in Jekyll’s handwriting. Finally, the narrator tells the truth about the two men. They are one and the same.

　　I learnt that Robert Louis Stevenson is a Gothic author through the Internet.

　　Gothic authors recognize that all human beings have the capacity for goodness, but all people also have a shadow side, and it is the degree to which one sublimates and controls his or her darker impulses that prevents one from becoming consumed with evil. In his novel, the central problem of Dr. Jekyll is that he cannot accept this truism about humanity and, particularly, about himself. Actually, the two sides of a person have well defined power and responsibility, mutual coordination and restraint. They know the appropriate time and situation to behave themselves. But how can we deal with this serious problem, the inner conflict of good and evil? First, we should correct the idea that we can kill off the evil side. Instead, we should acknowledge it, and then make the good side power by developing good habits step by step. We are educated citizens living in this beautiful planet. We are the hope in the future. We know what is right and what is wrong, and we have the obligations to regulate our behavior in accordance with the code of ethics. When we are doing things, we should consider whether it is morally right. Make this consideration a habit. Second, pay more attention to self-cultivation and adjusting attitude at any time in any place. In the course of human events, we have experienced the dark days of hard-working, when people work the whole day and the whole night like a crow without a short time of rest. Such a horrible life has gone forever. Third, release bad emotions as soon as possible. Unhealthy emotions can not be avoided, but we can release it through some healthy ways, such as running, playing sports, talking with others and so on. The more depression we hide, the more split personalities we tend to have. It is just the stimulation of the depression that causes many people totally become evil. Last but not least, don’t emphasize too much on the gain and loss of personal interests. In this colorful world, there exist various kinds of personal interests, especially pecuniary interest.

　　I really learn a lot from the book “Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”. It is a warning for us to review our behavior. The future is bright, but road is tortuous. In order to grow healthily, we’d better drop the bad behavior and bad attitude. Every thing can be settled, only if we have the determination.

　　The story of Dr Jekyll is quite famous around the world, however, Dr Jekyll himself is a typical tragic person. He is a kind and wise doctor in front of the public, but might not wise enough to adjust himself. As an old saying goes: every coin has two sides. Dr Jekyll also has his own negative side, which finally become Mr. Hide. Mr. Hide is always hunger for violence, and all the bad things he did tell us that too. People may treat him as a criminal, but to me, he is just unable to find a way to abreact.

　　It really doesn’t matter if you are a man lives in 19th century or comes from stone age, we are all people, we all have feelings, we all have our own Mr. or Ms Hide, the only question is, can you find a way to maintain your mental health? Maybe we can’t afford to have our own psychological consultant, but we CAN play games to relax ourselves, or realize any wildest dream in this virtual world. Imaging this, once our Dr Jekyll has some evil minds, he can turn to his computer for help. Maybe he can play some action games to satisfy his desire for “passion”, just like people today. Since the video game is always about the adventures of some superheroes, the game will guide him to the daydreaming of everything good but a criminal. As soon as he feels good again, then he will never try to become Mr. Hide in the reality. Maybe you will consider this as a na?ve idea, but computer game does reduce the crime rate in America.
