Are you interested in mysterious things ? What can be called a mystery ? Can you give some examples?

1. What do you think the pictures are about?

2. What is happening in each of the pictures ?Describe the people and events.

(These pictures tell readers a story .It is a detective mystery about the theft of a diamond from a shrine in India. Wilkie Collins was one of the first writers of detective novels. In 1868 he published The Moonstone . The picture on page 109 show scenes from the novel )

1.Good morning class! Today we are going to learn about The Moonstone written by the famous writer Wilkie . First go to the vocabulary list for this unit. Read it and look into the word formation of each word.

3. Do youy know anything about Wilkie ?

Wilkie was born in London on January 8,1824, the oldest son of a fashionable artist.He was named after Sir David wilkie , a friend of the family.

After an early career in business, he studied law and was admitted to the bar, though he apparently never practiced. He also tried his hand at painting , and wrote many articles and stories that were published anonymously.

In 1851,he was introduced to Charles Dickens by a mutual friend. The two formed a lasting friendship, and worked together on Dickens magazines.

He was one of the pioneers of the mystery and suspense genre.

Hello, everyone. This morning we are going to read and write! First read aloud to the recording of the text on page 115.Pay attention to the pauses, the pronunciation while reading aloud.

1. Study the two situations on page 117 and tell about the different styles of letters

The letter from Rosanna to Franklin is an informal letter, while the letyter from Sergeant Cuff to Rachel is a formal one.

2.When you are writing a letter, you should pay attention to these points

1) When the letter starts Dear sir we end it with Yours sincercely

2)You can end a letter to someone you know with Best wishes.

3)The first paragraph of the letter should explain your reasons for writing.

4)You should leave a space between each paragraph.

5)Ms is the title used for a married woman.
