T: Now suppose some visitors and guides are waiting outside the gate. The guides will introduce the Disneyland for the visitors, and the visitors will ask some questions. Now suppose that some of you are visitors and some are guides. Make a dialogue between the guides and the visitors.
(Give the students several minutes to prepare and ask two guides to introduce it for the visitors.)
T: The guides did a very good job now. If you have a chance, do you want to go to? But it is just one of many theme parks, now maybe the someone will ask what is a theme park and what we can do in the theme parks. Don’t worry, it’s coming, that’s what we are going to learn today.
Step II. Reading and listening
T: Now please turn to P66. First we will listen to the tape and before listening I will give you two questions. Get the questions by yourselves on the screen.
Q1: What is a theme park?
Q2: Which theme parks are introduced in the text and what are their themes?
(Then play the tape)
T: So much for the listening, who can answer this question?
S: A theme park is a collection of rides, exhibitions or other attractions that are based on a common theme.
T: Very good, the text introduces theme parks and how many are mentioned first and what are they?
S: There are five theme parks introduced in the text, they are the World Park, the China Ethnic Park, Ocean Park in Hong Kong, Disneyland in California and Universal Studios in Florida.
T: How about their themes?
S: Buildings, minorities, life in the ocean, Walt Disney and his characters and movies.
Step III. Careful reading
T: From the question-answering just now, I can see that you get the main idea of this text, and this time we will read the text carefully and find what visitors can do in these theme parks. First read the paragragh one and find what visitors can do in the first two parks.
S: At the world park, visitors can look at buildings, castles and statues from more than thirty countries.
T: As the screen suggests, we can look at these cultural relics, besides these, we can watch more in the park. Now I’ll show you more. On the screen is the map of the park, what can you get from the picture?
S: There are many copies of world-famous buildings, including the Great Wall and many others, so wonderful a place.
T: If your friends complain to you next time, I want to travel around the world, but I haven’t enough money, could you lend me some? Now you needn’t worry about your money more, because you can advise this park to them. This is?
S: The World Park, you can travel the world in one day. It will cost much less money and less time.
T: Very good, so if you go to Beijing next time, be sure to remember to go to this park to have a visit. What else park we can see in Beijing?
T: The China Ethnic Culture Park, where visitors can learn about the customs, costumes and culture of China’s fifty-five minorities.
T: So much for the first paragragh, now let’s read the second paragraph carefully again and find what visitors can do in it?
S: After entering the park, visitors can find all the rides and attractions that can be found in most parks and find opportunities to learn about life in the ocean.
T: How many sections the park is divided into?
S: Two sections, they are Headland and Lowland, we can enjoy the rides at the Headland, at the Lowland, visitors can explore the past at the Discovery of the Ancient World and examine giant footprints at the dinosaur exhibition, they also can learn about coral and sharks at Dolphin University, look at the winged beauties in the Butterfly House, or admire An An and Ja Ja, the two giant pandas.
T: After visiting the Ocean Park, let’s come to America, which parks we can to in this country?
S: Disneyland in California and Universal Studios in Florida.
T: What visitor can do in these two parks, read the third paragragh carefully and find the answers.
S: In Disneyland, you can meet Mickey and his friends, enjoy rides and games, and look at exhibitions from all parts of the world. At universal, We can watch our favorite movies and go on exciting rides where they can feel what it is like to do the things they have seen their heroes do in the movie.
T: There are so many famous theme parks in the world and now they are becoming more and more popular, compared to traditional amusement park, people like to go to theme parks better, do you know why, after learning so much about theme parks, let’s have a discussion about it
Step Iv. Post-reading : Discussion and consolidation
T: How are theme parks different from traditional amusement park, why these theme parks attract so many visitors? Let’s have a discussion about this question and discussion with your group member, of course you can add your own experiences.
After a while I will collect your discussion.
(After 5 minutes discussion, teacher began to collect different opinions)
S: I’ll try. Unlike traditional amusement park, theme parks often want to teach visitors something. They combine fun with the opportunity to learn something.
T: Well done. In this period, we’ve read a passage about theme parks. We have also talked a lot about it. Theme parks are so wonderful that we all enjoy visiting theme parks in the world. I hope your life is full of knowledge happiness. Enjoy it carefully.

T: Very good, just use your imagination and design a theme park, write it in your textbook and be creative.
So much for today’s class.
