There are two names of people for each place.

Ask Ss to identify countable and uncountable nouns of food.

1.much 和many 都可以表示数量上的多,much 修饰不可数名词;many 修饰可数名词。

how much 和 how many 都可以对物体的数量进行提问,其区别与 much 和many 的区别一样。

例如:How much water is there in the bottle?(water 是不可数名词)

How many people are there in your family? (people 是可数名词)

how much 还可以对重量及价格提问。相关词:too many , too much . (太多)so many , so much .(如此多,含有惊讶之意)它们的区别类似于many与much的区别。

2、No与none 用来表示数量为零的情况,即“没有”

区别: no是形容词,后面必须出现名词,相当于not any … none是代词,其后面不得出现名词。

eg: Are there any apples on the table? There’re none.(因为后面没有出现名词)

Is there any water in the bottle?-- There is no water in the bottle .(因为后面有名词water)

此句中 no water = not any water

1. Create an interest in local attractions. Bring some pictures about famous local places to class. Ask a few very general questions about whether they like the places or have visited them. Ask Ss to bring in some pictures of places they have already visited or wish to visit. Ss prepare four statements about their choice of attraction, e.g., where it is, when it is open, what you can do there and what they like most about it.

Explain the context. Simon and Will, one of the exchange Ss want to visit the Palace Museum. Ask some general questions about the Palace Museum.

Go through some key vocabulary items in Part A1 and A2: ‘exhibitions’, ‘golden thrones’, ‘pottery’, etc. It is best to put pictures on the board to illustrate if possible.

Tell Ss to look at the table in Part A2 carefully. Check students’ general understanding of the poster in Part A1 and the notes in Part A2

For stronger classes, tell Ss to do Part A2 on their own. For weaker classes, give Ss some hints by asking guiding questions. For example, tell Ss to refer to the poster in Part A1 and ask them What are able to do at Taihe Palace and Baohe Palace? Then tell them to write answers to complete part of the table in Part A2.

Explain to Ss that they will listen to a tour guide’s introduction. Read the instructions carefully. Direct Ss’ attention to Part A3. Ss listen to the recording. Ask them to do the task on their own first, then check their answers with a partner.

1. Talk to Ss about the sound and intonation of English. Tell them that we use syllables to divide a word into separate sounds. A syllable is any of the units into which a word may be divided, usually consisting of a vowel sound with a consonant before and/or after it. A syllable must contain a vowel sound, but it may or may not contain a consonant sound.

2. Say a few simple words which Ss know well. Ask Ss how many ‘beats’ they can hear. First, say a number of words with one, two and three syllables, e,g. Then say the words in a random order and ask SS to call out the number of syllables they hear.

Take Ss through the examples in Part A for reference.

Ask Ss to listen to the recording and write the number of syllables they hear for the words in Part B. If the class seems unsure, play the recording a second time. Ss check their answers

with a partner.

Go through the correct numbers quickly and identify problems with particular words. If there is a pattern, then explain again, giving comparative examples to illustrate the differences.

Ask Ss to say the list of words in chorus, clapping the number of syllables of each word.

Give them more words to practise with claps.

Ask more able Ss to do the extra questions.

Ask the Ss to do the puzzle in Part C.

Play the recording for Part D as a consolidation task. After checking the answers , ask more able Ss to write the number of syllables they hear above each word.

1. Before Ss begin the tasks in the checkout section, ask them to write down the key language items they learned in this unit, first on their own and then comparing lists in pairs. Ask one student to read his/ her list and write it on the bb.Step4: Read and finish the dialogue on P37.
