Dear xxx,

I am interested in pursuing a Geography course at University. StudyingGeography will provide me with a better understanding of topical issues thataffect the world around us, and also improve my presentational skills andindependent learning skills. I am currently studying AxLevels Geography andDrama, which has provided me with a keen interest in current affairs; thereforeI am interested in areas such as development and environmental issues

I feel that these subject areas will provide me with a sound background tobuild a degree

My interests in Drama started early in College where I found that I enjoyedmany of the techniques used within Drama. This gave me the confidence to takepart in college productions, I have also developed my knowledge of GreekTragedies, Physical Theatre and Monologues, and whilst studying an AxLevel inPerforming Arts I have developed my leadership skills and confidence to a maturestandard

During my work experience I had the opportunity to work with a professionaland extremely dedicated armourer. I used these two weeks to great advantage bybroadening my knowledge in a diverse trade, which requires skill and extremelygood technique. These two weeks helped me develop many skills such asconcentration and independent working, work experience has also provided me withexperience in a trade which can be used to fall back on, due to the fact thatthis is a family trade I therefore I have a platform in which to start up

Within college I play an active role within college and also within my tutorgroup. I was elected student Council Representative, which has not onlydeveloped my communications skills but furthered my organisation skills. Withinmy tutor group I interact as much as possible by taking part in the tutorfootball team, and helping out my tutor with international dimensions week, which consists of helping younger students to develop skills they can use in thefuture. I have also worked with the P.E department by refereeing sports dayfootball

As part of my personal development personal development, I helped in a Year 7Drama class and used my own skills to help students out with plays, this taughtme qualities of leadership such as motivation and patience

My hobbies include a wide range of sports, most notably rugby where I play atclub level and county level, I hope to use this sporting background to play in aUniversity team. I also take a great interest in football, golf and occasionallyplay tennis, I work part time within the College itself working in the SiteTeam, which has developed my reliability and communications skills

I regard myself to be an extremely friendly and hard working person. I havebecome very determined and independent as a result of pursuing my AxLevels; andhope this provides a good background for University. I look forward to thechallenge of University life and the opportunities that will arise as aresult.

Dear x,

Having a flair for Economics and accounting I have decided that I want adegree in Accounting and Finance or Management. The many brilliantrepresentatives of the management community around the world have strengthenedthat resolve.

When I worked in my school as a tutor of English as a Second Language forstudents from a community school in Muscat, I realized the importance of astrong leader who could organize, command respect, and be able to work well withothers. These ideas were further enforced by my month long internship atNovartis Pharmaceutical (Accounts and Finance Department and Human ResourcesDepartment).

I attended the Harvard Model Congress in Paris and won the Award ofDistinction. One skill in particular that contributed to this award was myconfident public speaking.

The last 4 months have been crucial in my learning of real world businessand economics. For my IB Extended Essay, titled “To What Extent Does Subway inOman Operate as an Oligopoly”, I set out to prove the oligpolistic structure ofthe fast food market in Oman. In this effort, I have come across many real lifecomplexities in pricing behaviour, profit making and other aspects of the Theoryof the Firm. While attempting to explain these alternate theories of firms Ihave developed a keen interest in analyzing and understanding how the world ofbusiness works.

After an undergraduate degree in accounting and finance or management Iplan to go onto post graduate studies and work on an MBA. A strong performancein a BA will allow me to move onto an MBA and only then shall I besatisfied.

For the last four years I have been part of our schools volleyball teamICE. We have retained our ISAC (Inter Schools Activities Conference, MiddleEast) title for four years. Playing in the power hitters (spiker) positionrequires immense physical fitness and to accomplish that I regularly go to thegym for fitness training. I am also part of my school track and field team.Being the fastest sprinter in the school since 11th grade the 100m, 200m and400m races are my specialty even though I still pursue long distance running. Inmy spare time I explore and master the computer as I am conversant with a VisualBasic Programming course. It is imperative for me to have the latest hardwareand software and I make it a point to install everything myself. I also learnUrdu as it is my native tongue and a link to my culture, to maintain that iscrucial.

Living in a diverse international community of over 52 nationalities hasallowed to me recognize and appreciate different cultures. With the experience Ihave and the strong motivation to craft a bright future I feel I can justify mydecision to pursue a career in Accounting and Finance or Management.

  Applied Program:Organizational Behavior

I am interested in the field of study of Organizational Behavior. In the past, I have had the experience of working in settings where the people and the corporate cultures of the panies were all different. I have found that there is a great difference in the both the behaviors of people and of their organizations, depending on whether they are statexowned enterprises (SOEs), large multinational firms, or small to medium sized foreign enterprises. One simple example is that of the ability of an employee to act independently without direct instructions from his or her boss. In many Chinese organizations, acting without direct instructions is considered a form of disrespect towards the supervisor, who is generally offended by such behavior. In my experience and research, such organizations tend to have low operating efficiency with the employees losing their innate ability to take the initiative.

In contrast, foreign enterprises tend to wele employees who have the ability to make decisions on their own, though the extent to which this is true depends on whether the supervisor is a local Chinese or an expatriate. These organizat Applied Program:Organizational Behavior

The purpose behind this personal statement is to not only gain admission to your wellxestablished and highly respected Ph.D. program, but to impress upon you my passion for learning and my tremendous desire to succeed in both scholastic research and in teaching on the professional level. I have based my decision to pursue an academic career not on purely practical reasons, but rather on my own natural interests and aptitude. My personal philosophy is that money and social status should not be pursued as lifexconsuming objectives and that in actuality they are the byxproducts of goals originating from ones inner needs. I understand that my intellectual capacity is a gift, and I intend to use this gift to the very best of my substantial capabilities.

Dear teacher:

Hello, thank you very much for taking time out of your busy schedule to readthis application for studying abroad.

My name is Huang Peng and I come from the No. 9 Middle School in Laiyang. Iam a native of the No. 9 Middle School, but now I have to add the name of thereviewer to the front. Although the college entrance examination is notsatisfactory, I am still willing to call myself a "Nine Middle School Person"when I talk about my identity at this time. These three words cover almost myentire youth and will continue to accompany me in the future. This time Ireturned to my alma mater as a reviewer. Thousands of thoughts came to my mind. The bits and pieces of the three years of high school were played back in mymind like movie clips. The original bold words and lofty ambitions seem to bestill reverberating above the alma mater. Enduring; the teachings of my mentorand the encouragement of my friends will last forever under the polishing oftime, and the words surging in my heart.

Although the youthfulness when he first entered his alma mater has becomemature, but thinking of that period of ignorance, his heart is still unable tocalm for a long time. With a vigorous heart under my immature appearance, Istarted my high school life. Maybe it was my twoxyear career as a monitor injunior high school that made me look more stable, or maybe my high schoolentrance examination results entered the class teacher’s "Dharma Eye". In short,I am honored to be granted the important task of monitor, and since then Istarted my three years of work so far. Another squad leaders career.

The class in the first year and second year of high school was a group ofpassionate youth clubs. We talked about ancient and modern China and foreigncountries, enthusiastic words, commented on the country, frivolous but tireless.Under the influence of such a group of revengeful confidantes, under theteachings of knowledgeable teachers, my grades have also started to improvesteadily, and more importantly, my thinking has taken shape from then onxI wantto be a strong one! During the day and night with the teachers and classmates, Ilearned something from each of them. I learned to be calm, I learned to betolerant, I understood gratitude... Each of them is a living textbook. Page bypage, book by book, even though I no longer live under the same roof, I canstill find out the "reading notes" for them very quickly. In the process ofgrowing up with everyone, I am also slowly becoming strongerxI have been firmlyin the top few "seats" in my grades, and my mind is becoming more and moremature.

In the end, he was promoted to the third year of high school with relativelygood grades and entered a brand new class. Although many things have to berevisited, I can easily integrate into the new class after coming from the firstyear and second year of high school. I have always believed that as long as Ipay my sincerity, I can capture my sincerity. Although I have only been togetherfor less than a year, my high school classmates and I are as close as friendswho have known each other for many years. We started the night battle together, immersed ourselves in the study, and worked hard together until we finallyrushed to the battlefield of the college entrance examination together. It is apity that I fell into the sand and couldnt keep up with them. However, "theshort stay is for higher flight", one day, I will catch up, fight side by sidewith them, and write the glory of our Nine Middle School!

After three years of high school, I grew up and matured. I am always willingto compare myself to a traveler, rushing to distant places one step at a time.On this road of life, I don’t want to lag behind anyone, and I don’t want tofollow others at the same time. I want to take a path that belongs to me. Leaveyour unique figure. Although I am a science student, I really like a person tothink about life quietly. I am not afraid of loneliness. Some people say thatloneliness is the person you are facing, and his emotions are not at the samefrequency as yours. I agree very much, but I don’t think I’m alone. Whether it’smy friends who are flying high, or my friends who “stay behind” like me, theyare my confidantes. With them, I am not lonely.

Although I am still struggling on the road to the college entranceexamination, it is no longer my goal to simply get high scores. However, goingto a prestigious university like yours is indeed what I want. People live forthe future, and I am fighting for the future this time!

Dearx University Teachers:

  hello!

My name is Yu, Female, 17 years old, is a student of science class 1 in the middle school affiliated to Northwest University.

I am a lively person, I always like to get together with my classmates to talk about the big and small things around me, and also discuss some very complicated problems, but more is to imagine the future together, whenever this time we will laugh very happy. In fact, I am a girl who likes to smile, because I firmly believe that smile can bring happiness to my friends, and I also harvest happiness at the same time. So I love to laugh, even in the face of setbacks also choose to use this attitude to meet, in order to give themselves more confidence. That is because I love to laugh, my classmates sometimes say that I am like a fool, but I never mind, because I hope my friends are happy.

In my study, I have a correct attitude. I once served as a member of the learning committee and a representative of Chinese class, and have won many honors. In my life, because of my smile, I became more united with my classmates. Therefore, I always served as the monitor in primary school. After I was promoted to senior grade, I began to serve as the brigade Committee and leader. For many years, I won the honors of "three good students" and "excellent class cadres". These honors are unforgettable in my life

They are teachers and schools affirmation of my study and work, and they have always inspired me to move forward. But I have never been so proud, but with a grateful heart, thank my teachers always care about me, love me; Thank the teacher for the honor, let me see the value of their efforts; Thank you for teaching me how to be an upright person.

My favorite sport is swimming, I think in the water can make my mind more clear, so whether it is hot summer or cold winter, as long as I have the opportunity to soak in the water. I also like to listen to music and have a wide range of interests, from popular music to symphonies. The reason why I like listening to music is probably because I think it can calm my heart.

I always use it to relieve my stress when I fail in the exam or have trouble. I also like to write essays and graffiti, to write and draw my happiness or unhappiness, and sometimes write an article filled with indignation to comment on the current news and some social phenomena.

I think Im a playful person, but Im still serious about my study. I feel that I am a more selfxcontrol person, know when to learn, also know that learning can not be distracted, and can abide by it. But I dont think Im what people usually call a "nerd" xx I just concentrate on my study and dont pay attention to communicating with others.

So I have a lot of friends, we study together, also agreed to work towards the goal. At the same time, my outgoing personality naturally makes me have a strong curiosity and desire to explore the outside world, which also makes my vision more open. The bigger I grow and the more I know, the stronger my desire to explore is. It drives me to "attack" the unknown world. At the same time, I also gain the happiness of learning.

Every day I go to school, I have to go through the west power. There are many trees in the campus. I can often smell the fragrance of green trees and grass. The simple teaching building beside makes the campus more elegant. As time goes by, I have a strong interest in the university which stands in the middle of the trouble but can keep its original flavor. Later, I began to look at thex University information.

I know that if I set a goal, I have to work hard for it, otherwise everything will be in vain, but sometimes I will be full of imagination about university life: I imagine the happiness of living with my classmates in University; Imagine the learning atmosphere when discussing problems with professors; Imagine the rich and colorful social practice activities... And now, for my goal and all the beautiful things I fantasize about, I have to study harder.

But among many excellent students, I often feel powerless, even inferior, which is one of my major shortcomings. But in the process of growing up, I have been trying to overcome it, and I also realize that only downxtoxearth, hard work is the way to success.

Im walking on this road now. Although its hard, Im willing to enjoy it. I believe that since I am destined to be with you every dayx If I pass by, I will step into the gate that I have been longing for for a long time in the near future with a grateful heart.

Dear x,

My fourxyear research experience since the completion of my undergraduateprogram in 1997 has helped me to develop from a Bachelor in Engineering to aMaster in Science. My research activities cover a wide range of fields includinganalytical chemistry, physical chemistry, organic catalysis, environmentalscience, instrumental analysis, nanoxanalytical chemistry, and biologicalanalytical chemistry. I am proud to say that I have accomplished achievements inalmost every of those fields. Based on my research findings, I have published adozen research papers. In particular, I have received patents from the PatentOffice of China for two major research results "The Preparation Method of aSolid Acid Catalyst with High Selectivity and Activity for Esterification" and"A New Reaction Technology and the Equipment for Gas Phase Esterification". Bothof them have significant value in industrial application.

Nevertheless, I am acutely aware that, in the research fields I aminterested in, there are still so many difficult subjects and challengesawaiting for solution. In physical chemistry, China is relatively backward inthe fields of catalyst development, catalyst inactivation, reaction dynamics, reaction mechanism, geochemical reaction mechanism, environmentalxchemicalreaction mechanism. In analytical chemistry, China lags relatively behind itsWestern counterparts in areas such as instrumental analysis and theoreticalanalytical chemistry. Basically, China relies on import for largexscaleanalytical instruments. By contrast, the United States has many worldxleadingacademic specialists and encourages interdisciplinary programs. It will accordme a stimulating and liberal academic environment, apart from the sophisticatedresearch facilities. Rice University is my top priority in applying for a Ph.D.program and I choose to specialize in physical chemistry or in analyticalchemistry.

At Rice University, I plan to learn broaderxbased foundational theories inmy chosen fields. With my solid interdisciplinary knowledge and my ability forthe quick assimilation of new knowledge, I intend to secure for myself a RAstatus to directly start my laboratory research under the guidance of my futureadvisor. I can also work as TA so that I can study while teaching and conductingmy internship. I can apply, test and consolidate the theoretical knowledge thatI acquire in the process of internship and degree program. Finally, throughtheoretical study and scientific research, I would endeavor to produce awellxwritten dissertation in which I hope to achieve some breakthroughs on boththe theoretical and the research level.

After obtaining my Ph.D. degree, I intend to enter one of the top researchinstitutes to delve deeper into some challenging subjects and to achieve someresearch fruits. After accumulating certain research experience at an actualresearch institute, I plan to return to China to work as a professor at aleading Chinese university, a position which will enable me to train many moreacademic professionals in physical or analytical chemistry. At the same time, Iwill also dedicate myself to turning my laboratory research results into yetmore patents and inventions, which can further be developed into products withpragmatic applications.

During my studies in the United States, I will attempt at some detailedobservations of its capital market, the most mature of its kind in the world, toacquire some necessary knowledge in company management and capital operation. For ultimately my career objective is to establish my own company to manufacturemy own products, especially those environmentallyxfriendly chemical products, based on my patents and inventions.

  Yours sincerely,

Dear x,

Hehe...this is the latest version, edited last night with help of acritical friend! Much better .

In everyday life, people take for granted that some people are good atthings and some people are not. But I have always believed that human beings arecapable of far more than they realise. It is this interest in human potentialthat motivates me to want to work as an Educational Psychologist.

I have always had an interest in the human mind, but never consideredworking in this field. However, personal experience of ADHD and autism led me tovolunteer at an autistic unit in a local primary school, which I have now beenat for almost two years. Whilst there, I realised that my interest in theAutistic Spectrum and ADHD was more than a passing curiosity. My experience atthe school provided me with a deeper understanding of these conditions, and, combined with my interests in educational psychology and technologies such asentrainment and biofeedback, led me to consider the potential application ofthese to assist such children in reaching their full potential. One day Ireturned home with a sense of exhiliration, and realised that helping autisticchildren was something that I wanted to pursue as a professionalpsychologist.

I have also worked voluntarily as a teaching assistant at a local college. My duties included creating certificates, writing course manuals, and supervisedteaching. In addition, I was comissioned by the charity DYCF to teach relaxationtechniques to "difficult teens" as part of a remedial programme, and wrote areport of recommendation. This demonstrates that I am able to empathise andinteract with a variety of people in a range of educational settings, as well ascope with a high workload.

I spent some time researching careers in psychology and it was quite clearthat Educational Psychology was the route for me. Although I had studiedCounselling Skills in xxx and DD100: Introduction to the Social Sciencespreviously with the Open University, it was of course a case of preparing myselffor Higher Education. So in 2008 I enrolled on DSE212: Exploring Psychology, with the Open University. My overall assesment score on DD100 had been 81, butof course it has been a while since my last formal academic study. Hence I waspleased to receive my first essay back from the Open University xxxx, scored at83, giving much promise for my future studies.

At the same time, however, I have worked hard to overcome my difficultywith mathematics. So I enrolled on GCSE Mathematics: Foundation. I recently usedaccelerated learning protocols such as mnemonics and entrainment to learn mytimestables in just under two weeks, and have also enrolled on a second coursefor extra help. Because of this, I am now confident of achieving a grade C inMathematics, and believe that this demonstrates my committed and creativeapproach to learning, as well as my practical application of psychologicalresearch.

I read psychological articles and reports in New Scientist, ScientificAmerican, and Psychology Today. I also keep up to date by researching psychologyonline, and have a particular interest in the research of the HeartMath andMonroe Institutes, and the application of their research and technology withineducation and therapy. My latest read has been Human Givens: a new approach toemotional health and clear thinking, by Joe Griffin and Ivan Tyrrell (20x).

Having a keen analytical mind as well as a deep empathy for working withchildren, I look forward to continuing my study of Psychology. My ultimate aimis to apply psychological techniques to help the autistic and ADHD populationsachieve their full potential, and hopefully add to and expand the currenttheoretical understanding of these conditions.

  Yours sincerely,

Dear x,

The experience I gained while travelling and staying in various hotelspositively affected my final decision to choose the hospitality business as theindustry to realize myself and work in.

Since my childhood I have had an opportunity to develop myself bothphysically and intellectually. I am good at swimming and even won 3 citycompetitions. I am also keen on dancing where the 3rd place and the audienceprize at the belly dance contest .Miss Oriental 2007. was my latestachievement. These skills help me to be in good shape because any employee ofthe hotel is its face and should look impeccably. Sport gives birth to a vastarray of qualities such as aspiration to leadership and victory, diligence, firmness, persistence, self-confidence and motivation and possessing thesetraits can lead to management.

Since my elementary school I have always wanted to take the leadingposition everywhere. I have tried to take part in all school events, working inthe school.s activity and participating in concerts, Russian, German, Englishand Latvian olympiads and sport competitions. I have been a member of the DramaClub, called .Reveranss., for 5 years, having played in many performances, and as a consequence I have a broad outlook and an open mind. Besides, it isreally significant for me to help to raise my school.s rating.

You might think that everything is easily achievable for me. However, reaching any target is a toil. Actually, sometimes I did not even sleep fornights to meet deadlines. For instance, last year I was working over my projectabout Saint-Petersburg for a week alone, but it was worth it and I won a 10-dayexcursion to this amazing city. Apart from that, I have always taken a keeninterest in learning languages and studying new topics. As a result, thelanguage is not a setback for me due to school.s rigorous syllabus in teachingEnglish. In addition, I am very punctual. Punctuality is a relevant quality thatevery hotel manager needs. Being late means disrespect and is absolutelyunacceptable in the sphere of hospitality.

When I ask my friends and acquaintances to say something about me, theydescribe me as a sociable, industrious, creative, energetic and optimisticperson, with a good sense of humor. I appreciate meeting new people. I canlisten to them and be tolerant and tactful. What is more, I have always beenfond of studying business, economics and marketing as to understand the reasonsof the development in different countries and to become acquainted with themethods of achieving the ideal structure and analyzing the economical situationin order to find a right way to success.

I personally believe that your university will assist me to successfullyreach my objective to become a hotel manager. I want to make my contributioninto this field. I have recently been to England and this journey helped me tomake my choice of the United Kingdom as the place for studying as I consider theUK to be the place where I can obtain a high-quality education, and afterwardssuccessfully apply my knowledge to practical work. I enjoy self-education and Ibelieve that this process will greatly benefit under the supervision of leadingexperts. Due to all the above mentioned, I am fully confident of the fact thatentering your university will be the right step. Then may be one day the poor3-star Italian hotel I stayed at will become a magnificent 5-star one.

  Yours sincerely,

Dear x:

Since learning to read from a very young age, literature has been mygreatest love. I am fascinated by the impact that written words have on society, and how they influence the way that people interpret issues such as war orpolitics. Literature has shaped our modern world; it is the most diverse subjectto study as it encompasses all aspects of life. My passion for reading andwriting has encouraged me to write creatively and to read a wide variety ofnovels and poetry outside school. I enjoy a broad range of classical and modernliterature and my favourite novelists include Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. Ihave loved studying Chaucer and Blake in school but tend to read more modernpoetry at home, including the works of Eliot, Heaney and Plath. Theinterpretation of literature from other cultures is pivotal to our explorationand understanding of historical and social contexts throughout the literaryworld. French literature complements my study of English, for instance theimportance of courtly love and the development of poetic style in eachcountry. I have a great interest in French culture; I enjoy French film and haveloved studying the work of Truffaut at A2-level as well as reading a few simplenovels at home.

My passion for the French culture also extends to my interest in History. This AS-level has not only broadened my knowledge of French history (I studiedthe French Wars of Religion for my coursework) but has also enhanced myanalytical and essay-writing skills. I also study Psychology and have a greatinterest in human interaction, which complements and supports my study ofliterature. In English I have developed my writing skills; my comparative andanalytical skills have been particularly important for this years courseworkessay, in which I am comparing Tess of the dUrbervilles by Thomas Hardy andThe Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood. I enjoy discussing literature andattend a fortnightly reading group at school, which has continued to increase myunderstanding and enjoyment of the classics and introduced me to severalsignificant modern works. Being able to hold discussions in French has alsogiven me great personal satisfaction. I enjoy my conversation classes with thelanguage assistant and I recently went on a French exchange to Compiegne. Thisexperience was hugely beneficial in improving my understanding and speakingskills. I spent the week completely immersed in French language and culture; myconfidence to speak increased enormously and I came love the country and itstraditions all the more.

Outside school, I thoroughly enjoy my musical pursuits. I play the FrenchHorn in a Youth Orchestra and intend to take my Grade 8 in 2007; I also sing ina Madrigal Choir. I perform in three to four concerts a year, including theschool Christmas concert; this year I will be playing a movement from Mozartsfourth horn concerto. My interest in music has required good organisationalskills, as I helped to run a choir at school for a competition. I thoroughlyenjoyed this experience, and it allowed me to develop my leadership skillswhilst working in a team. My duties as a prefect have also contributed towardsthese skills; I assist a Year Eight form with a team of other prefects. In JulyI took part in a World Challenge Leadership Day, participating in groupactivities where each team member had a chance to act as the leader. I am alsoinvolved in the Pyramid voluntary organisation, which is an after schoolactivity club for children with low self-esteem or mild behavioural problems. Inthis capacity, I work with a team of three other club leaders, and each week weorganise a new activity for the children.

I know that I am ideally suited to a joint degree in English and French, and I intend to use my skills and interests in contributing to universityactivities. I am highly committed to my studies, and look forward to pursuingthem in a challenging course at university.

  Yours sincerely,
